BCC has adopted a number of families for Christmas. Each family could use a little help with presents this year. Through an anonymous system, you can purchase specific gifts for specific family members. Please provide a gift receipt so parents can exchange the gifts if needed.

To participate, stop by The Magi Project Tree in the lobby at BCC. On the tree are the specific items on pieces of paper. You may take the paper, purchase the items and place them in the donation bin.

As Beth and I prayed about and discussed our commitment to the UNLEASHED Campaign, we were led to the idea that we needed to let God give through us. That was really different. We felt God didn’t want us to just give more out of our budget. We believed God wanted it to be clearly Him. So we decided that one way God could do that is by giving us opportunities to speak. I used to do lots of weddings and funerals and haven’t really done many since moving to Ohio.

After making this commitment God immediately gave us two weddings, a funeral, and we already have a wedding scheduled in July of 2013! The first wedding the family gave us an honorarium of $200. Twice what I normally get for weddings – Praise the Lord!

In this remarkably honest and unaffected memoir, Burnham tells the story of her captivity at the hands of Abu Sayyaf, a Muslim extremist group in the Philippines. For just over a year, she and her husband Martin, a missionary pilot, lived with their captors and a variety of other hostages in the Philippine jungle. In a botched rescue attempt, the Philippine army shot and killed Martin Burnham and Ediborah Yap, a nurse who was the other remaining hostage. Gracia Burnham was also shot, but rescued and treated for a leg wound. Burnham hauntingly depicts the alchemical reaction of deep Christian faith, Stockholm Syndrome and the unremitting terror of hostage life. The odd intimacy among the hostages and captors comes across in surprisingly frank conversations. At one point, Martin boldly refers to all the bad things the captors have done to the hostages, only to have one of them look at him quizzically and claim he has never done any harm to the hostages. The captors, in fact, do unspeakable things, such as beheading hostages or taking them as unwilling “wives.” Impressively, Burnham makes no attempt to dramatize these events for shock value, nor does she use this book as an occasion for Christian triumphalism. Instead, she chronicles both her high and low moments as a Christian during that year, and shows tremendous respect and love for members of other faiths with whom she lived. While some of the book is written for a Christian audience, a much wider audience will appreciate Burnham’s brave, artless account of these horrific events.

People are hungry to make a difference, yet most don’t know where to start. In fact, ‘serving the least’ is often one of the most neglected mandates of Jesus. Barefoot Church shows readers how today’s church can be a catalyst for individual, collective, and social renewal in any context. Whether pastors or laypeople, readers will discover practical ideas that end up being as much about the Gospel and personal transformation as they are about serving the poor. Here they will see how the organizational structure of the church can be created or redesigned for mission in any context. Drawing from his own journey, Brandon Hatmaker proves to readers that serving the least is not a trendy act of benevolence but a lifestyle of authentic community and spiritual transformation. As Hatmaker writes, ‘My hope is that God would open our eyes more and more to the needs of our community. And that we would see it as the church’s responsibility to lead the charge.’

Everyone’s talking about social action and justice in the world. At the same time, there is a rise of intentionally missional and incarnational communities in the church. For the first time in a long while, a major emphasis of the Western church is something designed to collectively point people outward and to give them the platform to do so together. Many of us want to serve the poor and be a blessing to our community, but most of us don’t know where to start.

Based on the book Barefoot Church by Brandon Hatmaker, The Barefoot Church Primer is an 8-week study written with the Missional/Incarnational Community in mind. It’s designed to be your guide on the journey of “learning to do right”.

While building on a biblical foundation of mercy and justice as they relate to a holistic understanding of the gospel, the BFC Primer is designed to help existing churches begin or continue their journey toward being missional, to relearn a posture required to become missionaries to our context, and to equip us to engage culture through engaging the needs of culture.

A logo is an icon, symbol, or graphic element used to signal a trademark or brand. It is an image that provides instant public recognition and association to an organization. Over the years, Beavercreek Christian Church’s logo has undergone several updates and as God continues to refine and shape our identity and direction, we must adapt our logo to accurately represent who we are. The new logo comes at the onset of new work that God has began through us.

The Shape

The logo is a round-cornered box containing a looped swirl – implying a snapshot of a moving line at a specific moment of time. The shapes are smooth and fluid giving the feeling of movement and energy. The line enters from one side, does a loop and then exits the other side creating 3 distinct sections. These sections visually depict the CONNECT, GROW, GO concept, which is our strategy for making disciples. The swirl also resembles a “2”, reminding us of our 2nd Mile Vision.

The Colors

The colors are bold but not bright – confidence but not arrogance. The brown and blue give the idea of ground and sky with the white swirl giving the appearance of a road – indicating the idea of “journey” or “travel” which ties into our 2nd Mile metaphor. The logo is also designed with versatility in mind – working well at any size, in a single color, or even black and white.
