…to be a 2nd Mile Church
Being a 2nd Mile Church is all about being a 2nd Mile people. Jesus said if someone forces you to go one mile, go with him 2 miles. 2nd Mile demonstrates an unexpected kind of love that sets itself apart from the kind of self-serving love the world offers. For us, 2nd Mile living is always relational, Spirit driven, and sacrificial. When we enter the 2nd Mile, we come to the end of ourselves and find that life truly begins. When we serve in the 2nd Mile, we find Jesus, life, and we find ourselves in the middle of God’s Story.
…to lead people in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ
Jesus gave his disciples their marching orders: to go make disciples, teaching them to obey everything He commanded and baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That is the mission of every believer and every group of believers (or, church). Some call it making disciples that make disciples. We call it “leading people in a growing relationship with Jesus”. Our strategy for carrying out the mission is summed up in 3 words: Connect, Grow and Go.
Discipleship happens in the context of intentional relationships, directed by the Word of God through the leading and power of the Holy Spirit. Our strategy of Connect » Grow » Go is carried out by ordinary followers of Jesus in both formal and informal contexts.
The first step is to connect in relationships – with God and other people. Sunday mornings at BCC provide a central place for our people to connect with God corporately and get connected to Christian community and service opportunities. Jesus said if we abide in Him, we will bear fruit. What happens when we have real connections with God and His people? We GROW.
Growing is all about helping one another see and obey God’s will. We all are being transformed to be more like Jesus and this happens primarily through the work of the Holy Spirit, by the grace of God. Contrary to popular culture, this is not meant to be a private matter. Our world encourages people to live increasing busy and isolated lives. This is why we encourage discipleship to happen through every-day intentional relationships. We need to connect with friends who are intentional about helping us to both discern and obey the Holy Spirit’s leading in our lives. What happens when we obey the Spirit of Jesus? We GO!
When disciples reach a certain level of maturity, focus moves from feeding themselves to feeding others. To GO is to care not only for your own needs, but for the needs of others. To GO is to impact the world for Jesus. We train people to develop spiritual relationships with the lost and provide environments that promote these growing relationships. We also have strategic partnerships with local and global ministries that are already doing 2nd Mile work. To GO is to utilize all the resources God has given you to accomplish His mission. When we GO, it is evidence that we are connected and are growing.
Our Core Values:
Our Vision, Mission, and Strategy are all undergirded by our core values. Our core values drive our behaviors and give guard rails to everything we do.
1. Lordship of Christ
Jesus Christ is the head of the Church and the Bible is the authority for faith and practice.
2. Purposeful Prayer
Prayers are focused on the spiritual battle of renewal in the church and an awakening in the community.
3. Intentional Relationships
Relationships are intentionally developed with other believers for mutual spiritual formation and outsiders to share the good news of Jesus Christ.
4. Servant Leadership
Godly leadership comes from a servant heart to provide spiritual direction to God’s people.
Our Core Beliefs:
- There is one God who exists in three persons: The Father, The Son – Jesus Christ, and The Holy Spirit.
- The Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God and is the authority for our life.
- Man is created in God’s image, but has been marred by sin and separated from God.
- We are made right with God by believing Jesus’ death on the cross satisfies our sin debt.
- The Holy Spirit indwells every believer to form Christ in them.
- Jesus will return to eternally reign with His followers. Those who do not belong to Him will be separated from Him forever.
